Most malaria cases in Europe still come from travelers returning from endemic countries, not from local mosquito bites.
What Officials Are Doing Now
German health authorities have urged residents near the airport to protect themselves from mosquito bites and to seek medical care quickly if they develop fever or flu-like symptoms. Malaria can be treated successfully if caught early, but it turns deadly fast without prompt care.
